Do one thing everyday, that scares you!

As I write to you in english you have for sure realized that I do need a lot of practice. :)

I know!

Some of the reasons why I write in english:

  • I love the UK and everything connected with it (except football!)
  • I am always trying to step a bit out of my comfortzone.
  • There is no german translation for words like comfortzone

Comfortzone – such a wonderful place to be!

We all love to have everything nice and easy-going.

And we are happy if everything just stays as it is.

No unconvenience, no fuss, no confrontation…

Only problem: Life wants us to grow!

And it keeps sending us signs to move on.

Maybe you have noticed some weird and unexplainable stuff happening in your life?

Like Déjà-vus, or strange coincidences?

Those are the whispers and if we don´t listen to them, the whispers will get louder.

Until we finally confront ourselves and take a closer look.

So where´s the benefit of stepping out of our comfortzone?

Because that´s where life starts to get interesting! That´s where change and growth is happening.

Or like some might say, thats where the magic begins.

But at first it´s just uncomfortable – like going to the gym.

And as we are all different, we live in different comfortzones. For one being generous is a big step,  someone else is frightened to talk to strangers. Or it´s finally stopping to procrastinate.

 Here´s the trick!

Whatever you choose to do: The trick is to be conscious about your step and what it does to you!

For example, I´m constantly practising with scary and unconvenient phonecalls.

Today I´m not that frightened anymore and I don´t avoid those calls for days or longer like I used to do.

And it has positive sideeffects on other situations, where I can face and handle my anxiousness much better.

Instant success!

So whatever your daring moments are: with each little step and each try you´ll make a great experience!

That awesome „tadaa“ feeling! Like: Yes! I did it!!! And I survived ;)

And then?

You will see how those experiences will help you change for being clearer, happier and more confident!

Promise, it works! :)

Like Baz Luhrman put it straight back in the 90s:

“Do one thing everyday that scares you!”

Here´s his awesome song about it – it offers great and really helpful advice, besides from wearing sunscreen ;)

With lots of love

Gabi

Sorting Egg!

Any idea about this egg?

I instantly thought of the extraordinary huge toilet eggs at sketch restaurant in London! Great hatching experience by the way.

But this egg is smaller! Curious?

The name of the egg is Ovetto – and – as we all now: sorting out the garbage in the kitchen is not really a fun topic, isn´t it?

But this surprising egg will for sure change our mind! The amazing design invites us to sort our waste easily into three spaces of 17 lt each and 25/30 lt. It is even rotatable! It works with normal, which can be purchased at the supermarket.

Ovetto is entirely produced in Italy and made of polypropylene plastic material and ABS from 40 to 70% coming from industrial waste. It can be 100% recycled after use.

To give you an idea about the price – it`s about 130 Euros and it comes in various colours, even in silver.

…I already ordered my personal sorting egg:))

So – what are you doing with your garbage? Do you know another fun way of getting it sorted? Let me know about it – I`ll be happy to hear from you!

Off the Frame

If you look around your flat – are you happy with your wall decoration?

With mine I was definitely not! Every time I sat eating at my kitchentable, I had an urge of doing something with that boring white wall in front of my nose. Then – one weekend – I had an idea! I went to the shop – bought some few little coloursamples – went home on the ladder and started working on that wall. It took me the whole weekend, my family thought I was crazy – but believe me, I was SO satisfied in the end.

You can see me and my little one in awe right here below :)GabiBeckerwallpainting

This is the eclectic wall area as a whole – and I haven´t finished it yet ;)

streifenwohnzimmerbreitSo why not start the revolution in your own livingroom – you don´t have to be a graffiti street artist! All you need is a little bit of courage and trust in yourself! How about a tree, a landscape or a silhouette? If you don´t know how to paint in a realistic way, do it abstract! Use a pattern, do stripes or circles – just free your imagination and get started! It will do both: free your creative energy and give you a confident boost. Plus you will have the most individual and personal wall styling ever!

I would like to pin that down with a quote of the visionary Andrea Karg, founder and designer of the fashion brand “Allude”. She also encourages:

“Just paint directly on the wall, an artwork is allowed to be out of the frame.”

This time I would love to hear from you! Did you like this posting? Have you ever put some colour on the wall – except for renovating?  Maybe you can send me an email to info@cubelin.com with a picture of your work! I would be so happy to see that. So – take action as soon as you can and don´t forget: the only limit is your own creativity!

Cubelin & Fashion

So if you are by chance in Berlin today, you really should enjoy one of the most atmospheric weekendmarkets of Berlin: “The Winterfeldmarkt” on Saturday. And afterwards – just around the corner – come and enjoy some fashion and art at “Herz + Stöhr” with friends.  CUBELIN will be around, too :) Hope to meet you there! HerzundstöhrEinladunRahmen

Blow Fish

As I visited the famous Berlin Winterfeldmarkt recently I stumbled over this extreme object displayed in the window of an antique shop:

IMG_9580I think they are tiny blowfishes – and when alive they look something like this:

Hm. I don´t know. What do you think about that – would you buy such a thing for your own home?

Style Spot #1

So often I see interesting and unique people in the street – they walk by and sometimes I dare to ask for their picture.  This morning I was thrilled by the glittering skirt of this lovely lady:

inspiring people

Isn´t she a great example of enjoying your individuality? Making this monday a sunday:)

Heritage Post

Are you like me a little fed up with those common high-glossy-glam magazines for women – models look great but not quite real, tons of commercials ( 20 pages in front of the actual first page of the magazine)?

I most warmly can recommend this journal being so authentic and refreshing different – it really brings back the joy of READING a magazine from beginning to end!

And no – all men now, don´t be dissapointed: there IS an alternative to GQ: the “Heritage Post” for men relates to all YOU love and like ;)

And as you can see here, this is me with a BIG smile – because my Cubelin is promoted in the new March issue ;) So have fun reading it!

The belgian designer Duo Studio Job raided their archives and created this stunning „Archives Wallpaper Collection“. It`s already in the museums! Pattern allover and not repeating itself! This is my favourite:

Plate Issue

You know what – I have an issue about plates! In my dreams I have the perfect set of plates and tableware, elegantly matching together in one scenerie, but with different motifs on each piece.

Until now I have found some extraordinary plates – but never as a whole set and therefore I am happily mixing them altogether.

These porcelain ones  found in London, made by british designer Lou Rota, meanwhile I have quite a few of them:

You will hear more of my never ending plate story soon :)

Insect Art

I think it´s so important to surround yourself with beautiful and unique things of good quality! It makes such a difference – you feel more worthy and every time you look at it, you get this warm loving feeling.

I have a few of those around me, which I would like to share with you from time to time.

Berlin based artist Karsten Fuge does really awesome stuff – insects made of ? spoons ? beltbuckles ? Yes, you must have a closer look at it. Very fascinating! Here is a picture of his artwork which I enjoy looking at it every time I walk through my kitchen.

And as I just found out, he also does extraordinary paintings creating his own Kafkaesque universe that´s inhabited by strange beings and animals.

Landscape Moods

Yes – I totally LOVE fashion! And recently I fell in love with this beautiful top by Designer J.W. Anderson:

http://j-w-anderson.com/

The landscape motif is so captivating, I did a little research and found out, the artwork was made by textileartist John Allen (80)! I was stunned by his website: The way he plays with colours is so inspiring to me! I at once made contact and will do a designclass with him in August. I am so much looking forward to it! Have a look yourself!

Now as Jonathan Anderson is also  designing for the spanish Label LOEWE, he did a stunning upcoming spring – collection, again using the exciting patterns of John Allen.
