The Future Mirror

Hey gorgeous!

I hope this finds you well!

I often walk through town and just love to watch how other people dress – especially elder ones! And I find amazing inspiration in it when they style  themselves in a unique or unusual personal way.

This is really a fun game to play!

I often take those women as a rolemodel and start thinking of how I will dress like and wrap myself up in maybe 20 or 30 years!

It´s like looking into a future mirror!

Would I wear a quirky dress like e.g. that 80 year old woman? Would I go for white hair or dye it purple? Will I still dare to wear a neoncoloured dress?  And will I still run around in golden shoes ?

Will figure still matter?

To share some inspiration I would love to introduce to you the stimulating blog by Ari Seth Cohen.

Ari Seth Cohen

It´s called Advanced Style . Ari lives in New York and this is his mission:

I roam the streets of New York looking for the most stylish and creative older folks. Respect your elders and let these ladies and gents teach you a thing or two about living life to the fullest. Advanced Style offers proof from the wise and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age.

Ari Seth Cohen has also done an awesome documentary about some of those wonderful women and you can watch the short trailer right below.

What will your style be like in the future – will you still consider what other people might think of you?

I can tell you that much – you won´t bother anymore after seeing this documentary ;)

Have fun!

Do one thing everyday, that scares you!

As I write to you in english you have for sure realized that I do need a lot of practice. :)

I know!

Some of the reasons why I write in english:

  • I love the UK and everything connected with it (except football!)
  • I am always trying to step a bit out of my comfortzone.
  • There is no german translation for words like comfortzone

Comfortzone – such a wonderful place to be!

We all love to have everything nice and easy-going.

And we are happy if everything just stays as it is.

No unconvenience, no fuss, no confrontation…

Only problem: Life wants us to grow!

And it keeps sending us signs to move on.

Maybe you have noticed some weird and unexplainable stuff happening in your life?

Like Déjà-vus, or strange coincidences?

Those are the whispers and if we don´t listen to them, the whispers will get louder.

Until we finally confront ourselves and take a closer look.

So where´s the benefit of stepping out of our comfortzone?

Because that´s where life starts to get interesting! That´s where change and growth is happening.

Or like some might say, thats where the magic begins.

But at first it´s just uncomfortable – like going to the gym.

And as we are all different, we live in different comfortzones. For one being generous is a big step,  someone else is frightened to talk to strangers. Or it´s finally stopping to procrastinate.

 Here´s the trick!

Whatever you choose to do: The trick is to be conscious about your step and what it does to you!

For example, I´m constantly practising with scary and unconvenient phonecalls.

Today I´m not that frightened anymore and I don´t avoid those calls for days or longer like I used to do.

And it has positive sideeffects on other situations, where I can face and handle my anxiousness much better.

Instant success!

So whatever your daring moments are: with each little step and each try you´ll make a great experience!

That awesome „tadaa“ feeling! Like: Yes! I did it!!! And I survived ;)

And then?

You will see how those experiences will help you change for being clearer, happier and more confident!

Promise, it works! :)

Like Baz Luhrman put it straight back in the 90s:

“Do one thing everyday that scares you!”

Here´s his awesome song about it – it offers great and really helpful advice, besides from wearing sunscreen ;)

With lots of love

Mr. Right and Mrs. Perfect!

Mrs. Perfect lives near my place and I don´t know her personally.

Sometimes she passes me by on her bike with her children (she has four!) and she always keeps herself in this graceful upright position. She´s blond, very pretty and her clothes look always neat, clean and crisply pressed.

A few days ago a friend of mine told me about that other lady in her gym, who she just calls „the perfect woman“.

And I knew at once: her „perfect woman“ is my Mrs. Perfect!

My friend additionally informed me about her perfect body and her flawless skin. Mrs. Perfect also seemes to live in happy marriage, be calm and patient with her children and enjoys cooking for 40 people!

So we were sitting in awe, wondering, how can that be – how can she be so perfect? And why are we not!

We actually considered being jealous…

BTW, if you happen to be a man – I am sure you have a male counterpart to envy, don´t you?

Because, how can you not be jealous in our world full of ideals and expectations?

Somebody once gave me a helpful advice:

Jealousy is just the universe asking you: Do you like what he or she´s got? Do you also want that?

And if you say yes, I dooooo!!! Then take action and wish for it! Because there is enough abundance for each one of us – so if you want it, you can get it!

And here´s who I really envy (apart from Mrs. Perfect):

I´m jealous of the work of fabulous Erin M Rily!

This girl from Brooklyn New York is weaving the most extravagant tapestries!

Her motifs are amazing: she has done a series about her view of our nude selfie culture, or e.g. police investigation pictures… how edgy is that!

Erin is weaving in a traditional way and even dyes the wool herself.

Apart from her amazing motifs I just love to get lost in those woolen pictures, to follow the woven threads and the changing gradient of colours.

These kind of textile extravaganca always excites me and makes my heart pound.

Thank you Erin! I´m jealous and praying for striking inspiration – to create something amazing like that!!

I even consider learning to weave now….;)

Only for yourself

When did you write your last CV or your biography?

Was it to apply for a job? Or for your website? Some days ago a friend of mine called me with an issue that sent me on a quite interesting time travel. She is writing a book about single moms – and wanted to interview me about my personal story. In order to not get confused about my dates and how long which chapter in my life lasted – I decided to write a short biography – with one difference: it was the first time ever I was not trying to impress anyone! I did it only for myself!

So my focus of writing changed completely and the insight was awesome!

I had to rewrite it three times. But then it became clearer and clearer for me: I was able to see the situations and circumstances which changed my life and its direction and my growing consciousness! And as you surely know, they say there´s a 7 year rhythm in each ones life for transformation and changes… …to be honest – I did not really believe this. But now I had it directly in front of my eyes – and it´s true! As I´m right now in the middle of my „sixth chapter“ – I look very much forward to the upcoming ones!

Even more when I find inspiration in other peoples way of leading their life!

One great example is this exceptional lady:

What a relief and joy to find inspiring women like her out there in the world wide net.  Yes, they really exist – so there´s hope :)

They´re intelligent, cool, in peace with themselves and found their own independent way of living a fulfilled life:

accidentalicon I accidentally stumbled virtually over this lovely lady from New York and was fascinated at once. Even more when I started to read her smart comments. She writes a blog about fashion on her website http://www.accidentalicon.com. Her articles are all related to style. Her view about how to wear grey or how she became unexpectedly a fashion icon at the NY fashion week are witty, well observed and really worthwhile reading! accidentalIcon

…and she never forgets to wear her sunglasses! -2

What she says about herself:

She does not consume garments, she lives her life in them and dresses honestly. She has original style without being eccentric. She chooses garments and experiences that allow her to be the self she is and the self that is always becoming.

Hats off: What an inspiring woman and a great role model, too!

BTW: Why not give it a try? Make yourself a gift and write your biography only for yourself! Promise, you`ll be amazed!

PET Bottles. Hm, yes – not really inspiring objects. We all know them, use them, collect them and return them (at least in Germany).

Veronika Richterova doesn`t.

At that point where the costumer normally returns the bottles, her imagination goes wild and she starts to create incredibly beautiful and original objects of various kinds. And they are absolutely inspiring!
